Son in Military Out of State, Does He Need His Own Policy?

My son is in the military stationed in MT and is driving a vehicle that is in both our names, he is on the loan also. My house is his home of record. Does he have to get auto insurance on his own or can he continue to be covered under my policy?

Your son does not need his own policy, as long as the insurance company knows the car is with him in MT. If the insurance company is not licensed to do business in that state, he might be forced into getting his own policy.

If he is stationed in MT temporarily for say, just a few months, you might not need to change his garage location on the policy. Military situations bring up many complications as far as residency. In most states, military personnel don?t even have to change drivers licenses because it is assumed they will only be in the state temporarily. If he knows he?ll be in MT a six months or more, there is a possibility that he would need to change policies, but it really depends on whether the company does business in that state or not.

Although we do our best to offer you accurate and current auto insurance advice, we are not responsible for any negative consequences you may encounter after reading this advice. Hong Kong Street Protests Against A New Chinese-Influenced Curriculum Plan Expose An Identity Crisis

Thousands of irate parents, teachers and protesters rallied on the streets of Hong Kong on Sunday and marched toward government headquarters in sweltering heat. They were griping against a government-proposed school curriculum plan, which they said was an attempt to indoctrinate students by lauding the feats of the Chinese Communist Party. ?????

The protests mark the rise of an identity crisis in the former British colony, political experts say. The public uproar is the latest retaliation to Beijing's perceived political pressure on Hong Kong, which ceded a large portion of its Cantonese-speaking territory to Chinese rule in 1997. At the time, the former colony was assured it would retain considerable autonomy over its legal jurisdiction, monetary system and the Olympics. Today, however, the curriculum protests reveal friction between Hong Kong citizens and Beijing.

Hong Kong was under British colonial rule after the First Opium War, from 1839 and 1942. It was taken over by Japan during WWII and returned to the British Empire, which resumed control until 1997. Traces of British culture remain in Hong Kong -- tearooms, double-decker buses, the original Rugby Sevens' tournament held in March every year, fashion knockoffs of Rolex and Burberry, and a skyline festooned with the names of corporate bigwigs like Panasonic, Samsung and Zurich.

Activists are now lashing out against the Hong Kong government's perceived attempts to rewrite the character of the country -- measures they say pander to the whims of Chinese authorities.

The outcry comes in the wake of a 34-page book titled "The China Model," which is funded by the Hong Kong government. The monograph emphasizes the alleged triumphs of China's single-party Communist state as a unique political body that presides over a thriving economy and society.

Follow us

If attempts to implement the new curriculum succeed, this booklet will form the basis of the national education curriculum, which the Hong Kong government is proposing to local schools for students aged six and over, parents say.

Course materials reportedly include a teaching manual that extols China's authoritarian one-party system as "progressive, selfless and united" while decrying the two-party U.S. political framework as a vehicle of social turbulence and a threat to people's livelihood. It also carries a prescriptive guide that directs children to holler in class, "I am proud to be a Chinese."

"We don't want our child to be fed this material," P.S. Ho, a father of a four-year-old girl, told Reuters in an interview. "If the initiative continues without changes, maybe we will change schools later or immigrate to another country." ??

Starting in September this year, Hong Kong will introduce a curriculum that aims to promote a sense of national identity, Eddie Ng, secretary for education, said on Saturday. The plan will become mandatory in three years.

Ng attempted to dispel fears that the new model would brainwash students about China's history. "We will do our best to provide a diversified range of teaching materials reflecting multiple points of view," he said on Saturday. "Brainwashing is against Hong Kong's core values, and that's something unacceptable to us."

Plans to strengthen Hong Kong students' knowledge of Chinese current affairs, culture and history have been underway for years. However, this new impetus comes weeks after the rise of a new administration for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), led by chief executive Leung Chun-yung, 57, whose close links with China, many feel, have led to him to urge Hong Kong to call the mainland its home.

"The British also tried to instill a sense of national pride among Hong Kong schoolchildren, but their way was a lot more subtle," Johnny Lau, an independent political commentator in Hong Kong, told the Financial Times in an interview. ?

On Saturday, Jiang Yudui, chairman of the China Civic Education Promotion Association of Hong Kong, a pro-China outfit lobbying in favor of the new national education plan, alarmed Hong Kong parents when he publicly announced that the curriculum should "wash their brains," referring to Hong Kong students.

"A brain needs washing if there is a problem, just as clothes need washing if they're dirty and a kidney needs washing if it is sick," he said, according to local media.

The protest march on Sunday pressed the government to consider instituting a special committee to address public concerns and Hong Kong's growing tensions with China.

Saudis mum on aid center for Syrian rebels

Zohra Bensemra / Reuters

A Free Syrian Army member walks past the body of an alleged member of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's shabiha militia at Aleppo's disctrict of al-Sukkari.

By Reuters

Saudi Arabia said Syrians should be enabled to protect themselves against government attacks but declined direct comment on a report that it had helped set up a secret liaison center in Turkey to aid a rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad.

Assad on Sunday claimed victory in a hard-fought battle for Syria's capital, Damascus, and pounded rebels who control of parts of its largest city, Aleppo.

Gulf sources told Reuters on Friday that Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar had established a center in Adana, southeastern Turkey, to help the rebel Free Syrian Army with communications and weaponry as it battles in major cities against forces loyal to Assad.

"The very well-known position of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia is to extend to the Syrian people financial and humanitarian assistance, as well as calling upon the international community to enable them to protect themselves at the very least if the international community is not able to do so," a foreign ministry spokesman said by text message on Saturday, answering a Reuters query about the base.

Related: 'Heavy skirmishing' reported in Syria's biggest city

"The Syrian regime is importing and using all kinds of weapons to fight and oppress its own people in a fierce war as if it's launched toward a foreign enemy -- not against its disarmed population", the spokesman added.

The Gulf sources had also said the Adana center, which is near the Syrian border and a U.S. Air Force base at Incirlik, was set up at the suggestion of Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah during a trip to Turkey.

Rebel fighters and government forces are still fighting in Syria's commercial hub of Aleppo. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

However, the foreign ministry spokesman said Prince Abdulaziz, who was promoted to deputy foreign minister last year, and is a son of King Abdullah, had not visited Turkey.

Assad forces declare capital victory
Assad's forces have struggled as never before to maintain their grip on the country over the past two weeks after a major rebel advance into the two largest cities and an explosion that killed four top security officials.

Government forces have succeeded in reimposing their grip the capital after a punishing battle, but rebels are still in control of sections of Aleppo, clashing with reinforced army troops for several days.

"Today I tell you, Syria is stronger... In less than a week they were defeated (in Damascus) and the battle failed," Foreign Minister Walid Moualem said on a visit to Iran, Assad's main ally in a region where other neighbors have forsaken him.

Rebels in Aleppo shoot at Syrian government helicopters during an intense battle on Saturday.

"So they moved on to Aleppo and I assure you, their plots will fail."

Rebel fighters, patrolling opposition districts in flat-bed trucks flying green-white-and-black "independence" flags, said they were holding off Assad's forces in the south-western Aleppo district of Salaheddine, where clashes have gone on for days.

Opposition activists also reported fighting in other rebel-held districts of Aleppo, in what could herald the start of a decisive phase in the battle for Syria's commercial hub, after the army sent tank columns and troop reinforcements last week.

Helicopter gunships hovered over the city shortly after dawn and the thud of artillery boomed across neighborhoods. Syrian state television said soldiers was repelling "terrorists" in Salaheddine and had captured several of their leaders.

Hello La Mode Launches Its Online Fashion Resale Marketplace, Raises $500k Seed Round

HelloLamode-logoWe've seen an increasing number of fashion startups lately and the newest one is Hello La Mode, a New York-based startup that just launched its marketplace for luxury fashion resale last week. The company just announced that it has raised a $500,000 seed round from three undisclosed angel investors. That's not quite on the same level as some other fashion-focused companies like JustFab, which raised $76 million this week, but Hello La Mode has an interesting business model that sets it apart from other fashion startups. Until now, Hello La Mode co-founder Eric Gagnair tells us, people were hesitant to buy secondhand apparel online because of potential issues with quality and conformity. His company, however, makes sure that every item that is put up for sale goes through a "manual check by fashion experts."

They can additionally grab from which they left off once they carry out. Learning this kind of skill needs numerous years of exercise. Fortunately, new producers don?t need to depend on possessing kissed your Blarney Gemstone. There are lots of free of charge teleprompter programs available. Even so, one which just make use of them you have to produce a set of scripts. Writing down what you should state will save you the need to recover it as you go, makes it easier to recover and will allow you to concentrate on the method that you are saying the language rather than precisely what terms you?ll want to point out. Obama to sign Israel security bill on eve of Romney visit

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will sign a bill to strengthen U.S.-Israeli military cooperation on Friday on the eve of a visit to Israel by his Republican presidential challenger, Mitt Romney.

Obama will seek to stress his commitment to Israel's security for American Jewish voters at a White House ceremony that appeared timed to upstage Romney, who has accused the president of undermining U.S.-Israeli ties.

Congress passed the legislation, the U.S.-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act, with broad support from Obama's Democrats and Republicans last week.

"The bill deepens our security cooperation with Israel by expanding our military assistance and providing Israel with access to additional equipment," White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said on Thursday.

Obama, criticized by some of Israel's U.S. supporters for being too tough on a close ally, wants to shore up his support among Jewish voters, who could prove critical in battleground states like Florida and Pennsylvania in the November 6 election.

Obama received 78 percent of the Jewish vote in the 2008 election, but a nationwide Gallup poll in June showed him down to 64 percent backing versus Romney's 29 percent.

Romney hopes his trip to Israel will resonate with Jewish voters at home. He will arrive there from London on Saturday and plans to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has had a strained relationship with Obama.

Obama angered many Israelis and their U.S. supporters last year when he insisted any negotiations on the borders of a future Palestinian state begin on the basis of lines that existed before Israel captured the West Bank and Gaza Strip in a 1967 war.

Obama visited Israel as a candidate in the 2008 campaign but has not done so as president. He has insisted security ties with Israel have never been stronger, though he has pressed Netanyahu to hold off on any attack on Iran's nuclear sites to give diplomacy and sanctions more time to work.

Romney has accused Obama of being too hard on Israel and not strong enough with Iran.

The new bill calls for enhanced cooperation with Israel - the staunchest U.S. ally in the Middle East and a major beneficiary of military aid - on missile defense and intelligence, and increased access to advanced weapons.

MRSA cases in academic hospitals double in five years

ScienceDaily (July 26, 2012) ? Infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) doubled at academic medical centers in the U.S. between 2003 and 2008, according to a report published in the August issue of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, the journal of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.

Researchers from the University of Chicago Medicine and the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) estimate hospitalizations increased from about 21 out of every 1,000 patients hospitalized in 2003 to about 42 out of every 1,000 in 2008, or almost 1 in 20 inpatients. "The rapid increase means that the number of people hospitalized with recorded MRSA infections exceeded the number hospitalized with AIDS and influenza combined in each of the last three years of the survey: 2006, 2007, and 2008," said Michael David, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Chicago and one of the study's authors.

The findings run counter to a recent CDC study that found MRSA cases in hospitals were declining. The CDC study looked only at cases of invasive MRSA -- infections found in the blood, spinal fluid, or deep tissue. It excluded infections of the skin, which the UHC study includes.

MRSA infections, which cannot be treated with antibiotics related to penicillin, have become common since the late 1990s. These infections can affect any part of the body, including the skin, blood stream, joints, bones, and lungs.

The researchers attribute much of the overall increase they detected to community-associated infections -- those that were contracted outside the healthcare setting. When MRSA first emerged it was primarily contracted in hospitals or nursing homes. "Community-associated MRSA infections, first described in 1998, have increased in prevalence greatly in the U.S. in the last decade," David said. "Meanwhile, healthcare-associated strains have generally been declining."

The study utilized the UHC database, which includes data from 90 percent of all not-for-profit academic medical centers in the U.S. However, like many such databases, the UHC data are based on billing codes hospitals submit to insurance companies, which often underestimate MRSA cases. For example, hospitals might not report MRSA cases that do not affect insurance reimbursement for that particular patient. In other cases, hospitals might be limited in the number of billing codes they can submit for each patient, which can result in a MRSA code being left off the billing report if it was not among the primary diagnoses.

David and his team corrected for these errors by using detailed patient observations from the University of Chicago Medical Center and three other hospitals. They looked at patient records to find the actual number of MRSA cases in each hospital over a three-year period. The team then checked the insurance billing data to see how many of those cases were actually recorded. They found that the billing data missed one-third to one-half of actual MRSA cases at the four hospitals. They used that rate of error as a proxy to correct the billing data from other 420 hospitals in the UHC database and arrive at the final estimates.

"I think this is still an underestimate of actual cases," David said. "But we can say with some assurance that this correction gives us a more accurate lower bound for how many cases [of MRSA] there actually are. What's clear from our data is that cases were on the rise in academic hospitals in 2003 to 2008."

Religion has little impact in U.S. race: poll

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The religious faiths of President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney will have little weight in November's presidential election, a poll showed on Thursday.

Sixty percent of voters are aware that Romney is a Mormon, and 81 percent say it does not matter to them, according to the poll by the Pew Research Center. The awareness level is almost unchanged from four months ago, during the Republican primary elections.

"Unease with Romney's religion has little impact on voting preferences," the Pew report said.

"Republicans and white evangelicals overwhelmingly back Romney irrespective of their views of his faith, and Democrats and seculars overwhelmingly oppose him regardless of their impression."

The United States has never had a Mormon president.

Obama is a Christian but the view that he is Muslim persists almost four years into his presidency, with 17 percent of voters saying he is Muslim. Forty-nine percent say he is Christian, down from 55 percent near the end of his 2008 campaign, and 31 percent say they do not know Obama's religion.

Among conservative Republicans, 34 percent say Obama, a Democrat, is Muslim, the poll showed.

Overall, 45 percent of voters are comfortable with Obama's religion, 5 percent say it does not matter and 19 percent are uncomfortable.

About two-thirds of voters - 67 percent - agree with the statement "It's important to me that a president have strong religious beliefs." The level has changed little in the past decade.

But 66 percent oppose churches or other houses of worship endorsing political candidates.

The telephone survey was carried out by Pew's Forum on Religion & Public Life and the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press from June 28 to July 9.

The poll sampled 2,973 adults, including 2,373 registered voters. The margin of error for adults was 2.1 percentage points and 2.3 percentage points for voters.

Facts About Teen Drug And Alcohol Abuse | The Board Magazine

Over the years, there are many complaints and cases where teens engage in drug and alcohol abuse. There are several factors and reasons why substance abuse is a common issue among adolescents. Through the innovation of technologies, influence of friends, fast changing adaption of the generation and through lack of guidance, there are higher chances that teenagers may see their life meaningful with the influence of alcohol and drugs. Finding the reasons for teenage addiction with the aid of experts of drug treatment programs is very helpful in determining the best rehabilitation program.

Identifying the Traits

Not all teenagers are being subjected to be in the influence of drugs and alcohol. Curiosity is one culprit that makes an adolescent rely on substance abuse. It is natural for children and teens to be curious because of the fact that they do not know much about things. They eagerly want to see and hear more about what are the effects of drugs and alcohol in the body. One of the big reasons why teenagers turn to substance abuse is because of peer pressure which can be from friends or other people to help the teen fit in the crowd.

Family History

Another factor which may lead to substance abuse in teenagers is from their family history. Histories of neglect and child abuse are factors which have been identified by medical professionals to cause substance addiction in teens. The parents play a vital role in guiding their kids to the right path of life. If parents fail to do so, kids will be left alone doing things they wish to do without thinking what?s right and wrong. If parents are the main source of drug use, their kids will most likely develop into a drug abuser in the future.

Prevention and Treatment

One way to prevent substance abuse in teenagers is to have proper guidance and an open communication. This would imply in choosing the right friends, having consistent communication from parents and appropriate guidance. The environment ideal for the child or teen should be a drug-free place and that a strong relationship foundation must be maintained. If the teenager has already been affected with substance abuse, it is best to submit him or her to the experts of drug treatment to help attain recovery.

Despite the curiosity from kids and teenagers, it?s best that parents provide full guidance to help teens understand the right and wrong things to be done in life. Substance abuse is a serious problem that needs appropriate therapy and prevention so that the cases of substance abuse will be reduced and eventually be eradicated from the society.

Testers and tweakers get Jelly Bean for their Honeycomb era Xoom WiFis

Considering that the Motorola Xoom WiFi was one of the first tabs to devour Ice Cream Sandwich, its plans to pop Android 4.1 Jelly Bean are hardly a surprise. While there's no official delivery date for the average user, certified testers who signed up for a pre-release won't have to wait -- it's just been pushed out to their devices. Of course, enterprising tinkerers can always get what they want as well, by installing it using a USB host cable or flashing a recovery file. If you're one of those brave souls, you'll score smoother performance, new search options and better keyboard -- but there may still be a few bugs before the full rollout happens. Also, if you were looking forward to finally having the update's Chrome pack-in, it missed the pre-release Jelly Bean bus and you'll have to stop at the Play store to grab it. Check out the more coverage link below for the gritty details on how to install the latest update.

RIM CIO Robin Bienfait Answers Your Tough Questions on ...

It?s been an honor to be a part of conversations with enterprise customers during a major transition for Research In Motion? (RIM?). We?ve had many valuable questions sent to us, and we?re taking the opportunity to get answers from Robin Bienfait, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for RIM. Robin oversees the Enterprise Business Unit, BlackBerry Operations, Customer Service, and Corporate IT functions. In short, she plays a major role in leading the vision for BlackBerry enterprise solutions, and the execution of making that vision a reality. Check out our chat below:

Hi Robin, thanks for joining me today! I?m looking forward to representing our enterprise customers and voicing the questions that they have.

My pleasure Luke, it?s both a challenging time and a very exciting time for us at the moment, and I?m glad I can help to address our customers? concerns directly.

Can you tell me a bit about your background and the role that you play with our enterprise customers?

Our customers are the reason we do what we do every day. My job is to meet customers where they?re at and help bring solutions to them that work best for their environment. I spent 22+ years at AT&T through all sorts of engineering and network operations leadership roles. When I left AT&T to join RIM over 5 years ago, I had led 30,000 people all dedicated to building a scalable and reliable enterprise class network. During that time, I interacted with enterprise customers on a daily basis, as I continue to do today. I believe it?s important to get to know the different pieces of a business ? it?s not just about being a leader, it?s about getting involved in problems and solutions. I am 100% committed to using my experience, knowledge, and dedication to meet the needs of our enterprise customers ? that?s what I?m here for.

Ok. I?m going to get right into the tough questions that our customers are asking. I know it?s important to you, and to all of RIM?s employees, to make sure that our customers hear information directly from you. ? How can enterprises be confident that RIM will be around until the launch of BlackBerry? 10, and beyond, as a stable solution provider?

Our leadership team is very aware that BlackBerry is facing a few challenging quarters as we approach the launch of BlackBerry 10 ? and we know there is much work to be done. A few weeks ago in Australia I met with many of our customers from the banking and financial sector; these customers rely on us, and we need to re-confirm their faith in our ability to perform and deliver. And we will work to do just that.

All companies need to go through changes in their evolution and it is our turn right now. Thorsten is making a lot of changes to ensure the company is addressing its challenges to give our customers the comfort that the company is not standing still and will be here to meet their needs. I think it?s important to look closely at the position that our business is in: We have $2.2 billion of cash in the bank, zero debt, are bringing in seasoned industry leaders who understand BlackBerry customers, are reducing costs in non-core areas, and investing in a plan to radically shift the company and the technology. I?m confident that we?re well positioned. What?s important is that we have a clear direction, are pivoting rapidly, and are absolutely committed to achieving these goals.

Our customers see a lot of media activity around RIM and speculation about its future. Will RIM be acquired or bought out, and if so, would this disrupt BlackBerry service for enterprise customers?

RIM is clearly a hot topic right now and many individuals and publications are speculating about our strategic options and future. We are a public company so media and analyst scrutiny is expected during such a major transition. The reality is straightforward: We have over 78 million customers that need our services on a day-to-day basis, and we?re firmly committed to the launch of the BlackBerry 10 platform. Our primary goal is to support our customers and drive value for shareholders and employees by continuing to invest and develop our enterprise initiatives.

You know, strategic partnerships have always been a part of RIM?s business model. We started building partnerships with carriers over a decade ago, and we?ll keep building partnerships to bring the best expertise and technology into the services and products we provide. I acutely understand the strategic importance of RIM?s network to our customers, and we are absolutely committed to upholding our long-standing history of providing this service reliably. The RIM network has supported critical functions for customers for over a decade; our global messaging infrastructure remains a competitive advantage.

At BlackBerry World 2012 you made commitments to our Enterprise customers: BlackBerry? Mobile Fusion as a cloud offering, and security for data at rest and data in transit for iOS and Android devices managed through BlackBerry Mobile Fusion. Can you provide an update on these?

We have a full roadmap and timeline for our enterprise offering and are well along the path of meeting these goals. As I said, we are continuing to invest in enterprise solutions and are dedicated to partnering with our customers to help them solve challenges and to help them succeed, it?s a priority and focus for us. We continue to expand and scale our MDM solution, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, including cross-platform management capabilities that we know are a major focus for many organizations.

It?s a CIO or IT administrator?s job to ensure that their organization?s mobility needs are met. Why shouldn?t they be planning for contingencies?

That?s a good question, Luke. Customers certainly don?t want to question their smartphone and connectivity ? they just want it to work. Business continuity planning is a healthy practice for any business, and one that we often enable with BlackBerry solutions. But with a firm plan of action underway for RIM, demonstrable fiscal responsibility, and a deep history of security and support for enterprise, I firmly believe that we remain the clear choice for enterprise customers at this time. No one else has RIM?s track record of protecting enterprise data.

Will the planned layoff of 5,000 RIM employees affect customer service?

I want to clearly answer this ? we do not expect any effect on customer service. Our customers are the reason we exist and we?re absolutely committed to helping ensure our customers? needs are met. I know the decision to reduce headcount is very difficult ? difficult on the people affected, difficult on their team members, difficult on their families ? but we?re doing this to ensure the long-term success of the company. As Thorsten mentioned on the Q1 earnings call, support for critical functions like Network Operations, Customer Support, and BlackBerry 10 launch teams are our priority.

If RIM?s recent performance hasn?t been up to your expectations (and the expectations of many of our stakeholders), what changes have been made within RIM to proactively work to turn around performance? What additional changes are planned?

As I have outlined, many changes have been made to help build a strong and healthy future for RIM ? we are focused on our priorities and keeping our line of sight on innovation. The culture is really shifting and streamlining. We?ve made radical shifts in top-level leadership to drive focus, reduced management layers, engaged in cost cutting initiatives, and a dedication to innovation via the BlackBerry 10 platform. We plan to continue this focus throughout fiscal year 2013 and in particular to meet the goal of cutting $1 billion in costs. We are pivoting strategically, and we?re confident in the clear path forward as well as in our assembled, experienced leadership team. Thorsten has discussed many of these changes in his recent submission to the Globe and Mail. If you haven?t read it, I?d encourage you to do so!

RIM has millions of customers waiting for the launch of BlackBerry 10. How do you know that BlackBerry 10 will meet their expectations?

Make no mistake; BlackBerry 10 is not a simple addition to our lineup of BlackBerry smartphones. BlackBerry 10 is a brand new mobile computing platform built on a rock-solid foundation of QNX technology that has been meeting the security, reliability, and performance needs of customers for more than 30 years. This platform will allow us to deeply engage with the mobile computing space and provide a springboard for rich future products and services. We are excited, we are dedicated, and we?re confident in this platform. In terms of meeting the needs and expectations, we?ll be partnering with many of our enterprise customers to allow them to take a look in advance of the launch, so they can see for themselves what we?re working on. The BlackBerry 10 platform will be supported and managed by BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, a solution built on years of leadership and experience in the MDM [Mobile Device Management] space. So you can see that this is an entire ecosystem and platform built to enable businesses and their employees. Like I said ? very exciting stuff.

How can I trust BlackBerry Mobile Fusion as an MDM solution when the future of RIM is in question?

Beyond what I mentioned about a dedication to reliability and BlackBerry network service for our enterprise customers, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion represents a fundamental strength of RIM. We pioneered not only the smartphone market, but also mobile device management ? in direct response to the needs of enterprise customers for security, manageability, efficiency, and convenience. We haven?t stopped, and won?t stop, listening to our customers, and BlackBerry Mobile Fusion is tailored to meet the needs of businesses today. BlackBerry Mobile Fusion builds on the foundation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which has almost a quarter million active deployments. It represents innovation in mobile device management that extends across multiple platforms. Managing mobile enterprises has been our strength for over a decade, and BlackBerry Mobile Fusion with BlackBerry 10 will position us for the future.

It seems that one of RIM?s systemic issues has been product delays. How can customers be confident in RIM when BlackBerry 10 has been delayed more than once?

I know many of our customers are looking forward to the launch of BlackBerry 10, and they were disappointed by the delay into Q1 of calendar year 2013. The reason for this delay, as Thorsten has mentioned, is that we need more time to integrate all of the features that we?ve built. BlackBerry 10 is a combination of some incredible technologies, and the experience needs to be seamless. We will produce a stable mobile platform that delivers rich and exciting experiences for customers, and we refuse to compromise on quality in the process.

Thanks for joining me today Robin ? do you have any closing thoughts for our enterprise customers?

Thanks for the questions, Luke. On behalf of all of RIM?s employees, I want to thank our customers for their incredible support ? it?s clear that they?re cheering for us and want us to succeed. It?s truly an amazing experience to meet with so many influential business leaders in my work and to hear first-hand how important BlackBerry is to their business and personal lives. Their feedback is part of our daily evolution and growth and we wouldn?t have it any other way.

How OUYA Created a Trending Brand in Less than a Day ...

Hold on one minute ? what is, who is OUYA?

OUYA is ?A New Kind of Video Game Console? ? this is an example of disruption at its finest.

From an unknown name a few weeks ago, OUYA has written the blueprint for what can only be referred to as ?viral community branding?. If you do not recognize the name, you?re not alone ? OUYA has just had the most successful launch in Kickstarter history by raising over a million dollars in less than 8 hours! Since the fundraising program was unveiled and launched they?ve been trending worldwide on Twitter, has been one of the most searched terms on Google and Bing and the subject of countless articles.

What they accomplished in less than 24 hours is phenomenal. They have now raised more than 5 million dollars in just a few short days.

So what?s the secret behind such a quick marketing success? There are a lot of factors to consider but all of them have one thing in common: it?s all about Community.

Harnessing the power of Community has been done before but rarely with such successful execution. There are a lot of steps that have been taken to make sure the brand would be successful. When dissecting the brand identity of OUYA it?s clear that their marketing message is crafted to cater to their audience: gamers. The product is indeed filling a void in the gaming industry, yet what made the branding so efficient is the way OUYA positioned itself as a console for gamers that couldn?t exist without their support.

The people behind OUYA are all ?rock-star? veterans of the gaming industry. Julie Uhrman is a former digital distribution VP for IGN (a Newscorp owned company). Ed Fries is one of the fathers of the original Microsoft Xbox. Muffi Chadali is responsible for the Amazon Kindle. And designer extraordinaire Yves Behar is considered to be the heir apparent to Philippe Stark.

By using an effective marketing message and harnessing the right channels to talk to their audience, OUYA?s strategy and message was strong from the outset. They also connected with legendary game designers who had recently experienced overwhelmingly successful Kickstarter campaigns. This gave their product ?street? credibility by using expressions like ?open source?, ?hackable,? and ?free to play? which implies positive connotations within the gaming community. This turned community influencers into an active component of development. Crowd funding completed the equation.

What can?t be overlooked is the low entry price point of the device. This is a tremendous advantage, but to achieve the exposure OUYA needed and ultimately received it was imperative to appeal to the consumers and the most vocal influencers in the gaming community. The result was like an out-of-control wildfire that spread quickly.

These are smart and experienced people and this was a well thought out plan that likely produced results better than originally anticipated. It should be noted that this technique of branding is not normally utilized to be self-sustainable. It would be naive to think that the all-star industry veteran team behind OUYA is solely relying on the community for developing its offering.

OUYA was most likely just gauging consumer/developer interest, and had Angel or VC Investors waiting to see how well the Kickstarter campaign did before buying in with a more substantial and ultimately dilutive amount. A good influencer/community based campaign can make a brand and therefore the difference between the terms of the deal, or whether it goes through at all.

There?s no guarantee that OUYA will be a success but they?ve completed a critical phase quickly and established their brand and created a huge buzz in a very specific community. That alone is a powerful marketing tool, and the goals and lessons learned from this phase were clearly accomplished. By knowing their audience, they were able to cater to it directly, engage community influencers, listen to their needs and turn potential consumers into community advocates by giving them a crucial role in the product lifecycle.

Quite simply ? ?The people have spoken. And they want their Ouya?. ? Venture Beat

Kelsie drops in on new mums | Sunshine Coast Music | Music ...

A DAY after being dropped from The Voice, Kelsie Rimmer found a new direction.

The Voice contestant Kelsie Rimmer.

A DAY after being dropped from The Voice, Kelsie Rimmer found a new direction.

The 20-year-old Palmwoods singer has been helping young mums who were forced to quit school because they were pregnant.

Kelsie joined Burnside High's award-winning program STEMM - Support Teenagers with Education, Mothering and Mentoring.

AND now, after months of work, Kelsie and the 38 women from this year's STEMM program are preparing to launch their first song, A Place Where I Belong.

"The girls all contributed, everyone put in a line or phrase and we brought it all together," Kelsie said.

"It came out as a song."

It will be launched for the first time on Saturday night at STEMM's annual fundraiser, Christmas in July: Arabian Nights.

Kelsie will perform the song with three of the young mothers.

Kelsie said her mum had volunteered at STEMM for several years, but the day after Keith Urban selected Brittany Cairns to continue in the show, she decided to "come along as well". "I was a bit nervous. I'm not used to that many people watching me in an intimate setting. It is scary compared to being in a crowd," she said.

"But I'm happy to be involved in such a great way. I've been thinking of ways to use music and music therapy to help them with what they are going through."

Kelsie hopes the song will become STEMM's theme song and is in the process of recording it.

"After The Voice, this was a great way to give back. I'm so grateful for the opportunities that have come from The Voice and I didn't want to use it just for my own success."

Clarissa Johnson could not believe it when the young woman she had been watching on television suddenly appeared in the classes she was taking.

Clarissa finished school in Year 10, leaving her Darwin home to move to the Sunshine Coast when she was five months pregnant.

Now her son, Riley Walker, is two and she is preparing to graduate from STEMM with the hope of pursuing a double degree in business and accounting.

"It was exciting when she came," Clarissa said. "She was really cool, laid back and genuine."

Clarissa will perform with Kelsie on Saturday night.

The STEMM program, which was at risk of funding cuts earlier in the year, has just been listed as a finalist in the 2012 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools.
