Web hosting provider Cbeyond announced on Monday the general availability of its VoIP service TotalCloud Phone System in the US.
The new Cbeyond phone service is specifically designed for single or multi-location businesses with in-office, remote and mobile workers. It can route and prioritize voice traffic via Cbeyond?s private IP network linked to a secure data center.
Like other VoIP and hosted-PBX offerings, the Cbeyond phone service will help customers realize cost savings, but this may not be the only selling point that enterprise IT is interested in hearing about from their service provider.
?Rather than looking at VoIP in terms of how it improves the plumbing, rather look at staff habits, work practices and real-life interaction, and how VoIP and the new age of digital telephony can improve that,? Riaan Pieterson writes in a Biz Community article on Monday.
?The IT director is not so much interested in cost-saving projections as in whether the VoIP provider he?s talking to would be a good and reliable business partner. Will you add value to my business and life? Will you be responsive and take ownership of the system you?re making so many promises about? Are you going to implement VoIP in a way that does not make my life harder (like interfering with other network traffic)? Can you come up with good ideas to make VoIP part of a productivity-enhancement package??
TotalCloud Phone System is based on Broadsoft technology, which enables service providers to offer a portfolio of business and consumer communications applications from a common network platform, according to its website.
Partnerships are typically the easiest and fastest way to launch a VoIP service. For example, Parallels offers hosted PBX solutions through partnerships. Recently, CommuniGate released an open-source adapter kit for VPS hosting providers to integrate its unified communications tools ? including VoIP ? with the cPanel control panel.
Cbeyond initiated a controlled launch of TotalCloud Phone System in July 2012. Last month it received the Frost and Sullivan 2012 North American VoIP Access and SIP Trunking Services Competitive? Strategy Leadership Award for its innovation in the space, including the first commercially available SIP trunking service on a managed IP network, SIPconnect.
TotalCloud Phone System features mobile phone integration, call filtering, online feature management and click-to-dial using Microsoft Outlook.
The cloud-based phone system is scalable according to business needs, and is reliable via geo-redundant deployment across data centers, Cbeyond says.
?Businesses require high-quality phone technology capable of growing with them while delivering low maintenance costs,? Tim Myers, vice president, cloud engineering at Cbeyond said in a statement. ?TotalCloud Phone System provides the right combination of service, support, advanced technologies and cost-efficient deployment to make that happen.?
In October, Cbeyond named Jonathan Crane and Marvin Wheeler to its board of directors.
