Unsettled weather conditions will continue across the South and portions of the Mid-Atlantic on Monday as a slow moving cold front and waves of low pressure gradually push offshore. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean combined with energy from this disturbance will fuel another round of scattered to numerous showers with periods of locally heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in areas near the Gulf Coast and scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic. Heavy rainfall near the central Gulf Coast may translate into possible flooding during the day. By Monday night, this disturbance is expected to push into the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

To the north, a cold front will drop across the Northeast and Lower Great Lakes with generally isolated showers. Cooler temperatures will follow behind the cold front as high pressure builds in with a drier and cooler airmass.

For the West, monsoon moisture and subtropical disturbances will maintain areas of showers and thunderstorms in the Southwest and Central Great Basin. This activity will spread into the Northern Intermountain West and the Central and Northern Rockies as a trough of low pressure approaches the Pacific Northwest with frontal disturbances. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 32 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont. to a high of 102 degrees at Needles, Calif.
