Actor/rapper Nick Cannon is turning the spotlight on student performers at an annual talent contest in California on Saturday.
New dad Cannon, who welcomed twins with wife Mariah Carey last month, will help hand out prizes and scholarships to contestants in the Beyond the Bell Take Action Leadership Campaign event.
Young singers, musicians and spoken word performers from across Los Angeles will compete in the extravaganza, which takes place on three stages on Paramount Pictures studios' 'New York streets' in Hollywood.
Cannon says, "I loved to perform when I was a teen so I know how important it is for young people to have opportunities to be inspired and to share their gifts with the world. There are so many talented kids out there that are like celebrities in the circles they travel in. The great thing about this event is that it really gives them an opportunity to shine, to inspire others and to have something to look forward to."
A flash mob featuring 2,000 students has also been organised to take place on the day.
