Hacker group LulzSec penetrates U.S. Senate, online games (Yahoo! News)

On Monday the hackers known as LulzSec infiltrated US Senate servers and published sensitive government data on the group's website. LulzSec is a hacker group that mainly focuses on exposing security flaws in the computer networks of?corporations and governments. The group also broke into servers run by Bethesda, a game designing company that will soon be releasing the next edition of the Elder Scrolls series, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Today, the hacker group penetrated the servers of popular online games Minecraft and EVE Online, making it so that players of each game are (at least temporarily) unable to login and play the games. The group also targeted and brought down the popular online game site The Escapist.

Over the past month, other targets of LulzSec include PBS, Fox, Sony, Nintendo, and an FBI affiliated organization Infragard. LulzSec is chronicling their hacks on their Twitter account, @LulzSec.

It will be interesting to see how the US government responds to these high profile incidents, especially considering the recent apprehension of some of the people allegedly responsible for the Sony PSN hack. The Pentagon also recently said that the military can, under certain circumstances, retaliate against online intrusions with military force. One has to wonder how long the military will put up with intrusions into key government system by this hacking group.
