Sunrise Period for .PW Coming in December
The country code extension for Palau (.PW) was relaunched during last month?s ICANN meeting. The relaunch is being handled by Directi, a company that submitted 30 applications for new gTLDs.
Directi plans to run the .PW ccTLD as it would a gTLD, branding the domain under the acronym ?Professional Web? and targeting individuals and businesses ?who are turning to the Internet to establish a professional online presence.? Managing a ccTLD as a gTLD has been done before ? Verisign currently runs the ccTLD for Tuvalu (.TV) as ?the domain extension for website with video and rich media.?
A Sunrise period for trademark owners to register their brands under .PW will begin on December 3 and run until February 8, 2013. Registration during the Sunrise will be open to trademark owners whose marks were registered prior to December 1, 2012. The following requests may be submitted to the registry for registration:
- Exact matches, with substitution for special characters
- Exact + keyword ? any domain name containing the trademark
- Misspellings of trademark prone to typo-squatting
- Common abbreviations of a validated trade mark
A Landrush period will follow the Sunrise phase and will begin on February 18, 2013. Unrestricted registration for the general public will begin on March 25, 2013.
El Salvador to Introduce Registrations Under .SV
El Salvador has begun to accept registrations directly under the .SV top level domain extension. Previously, registrants were able to request registrations under the second level domain .COM.SV only.
There is a Grandfathering/Sunrise period running until November 30, where current registrants of .COM.SV domains may request the identical registration under .SV. These domains will be allocated on January 1, 2013. After January 1, general availability will begin with domains being allocated on a first come, first served basis.
The local presence requirement that is currently in place for .COM.SV domains will also be required under .SV. Corsearch can provide a local presence proxy for those who are interested in applying for a .SV registration but are unable to fulfill the requirement.
ccTLD for Sint Maarten Moves to Landrush
.SX, the country code domain for Sint Maarten, is now open to Landrush applications. During this phase, domains will not be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Multiple applications for the same domain will be automatically placed into an auction.
General Availability under .SX is scheduled to begin on November 15, 2013, where domains will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
